Battered Persons/Victim/Adult Abuse
We all hope that we will never encounter a violent situation where we may
need to find emergency help out of fear for our own lives. However, it is a
comfort to know that there are many agencies operating solely to help these
people. The Rainbow Resource Directory lists pertinent information
that can be of assistance for victims of abuse, human trafficking, and
run-away youth. Each listing contains contact information, a description of
services offered by that particular agency, and admission requirements.
We offer listings such as:
-
Emergency, transitional, and long-term
shelters for single women and women with children who have been
victims of domestic violence. These shelters also offer support
services including emergency food, clothing, counseling, and
support groups.
-
Adult Protective Services (APS) and Child
Protective Services (CPS) hotlines and offices for reporting
abuse of any kind.
-
World service offices and local inter-groups
for support groups relating to victims of abuse such as Adults
Molested as Children and Incest Survivors Anonymous.
-
Programs specifically geared towards victims
of human trafficking and child prostitution.
-
Legal assistance including help filing a
restraining order, court accompaniment, Victim-Witness
restitution services, and other legal advice.
-
24-hour hotlines for victims of rape or
sexual assault. Operators direct callers to the nearest shelter,
agency, or emergency room.
Many services in this chapter are also culturally
sensitive, faith-based, or offer services targeted towards a
specific client population. Additionally, given the sensitive nature
of these services, patient confidentiality is held with the utmost
importance.
